Few definitions of the human factor manage to avoid focusing on the human error. What interests us most in our title ‘factor’ is, however, the ‘act’. We want to focus on acting and thus free the ‘human factor’ from non-neutral connotations.
To discuss this matter, working in collaboration with the Centre for Translation Studies at Jagiellonian University we have planned an international conference which will take place in Collegium Minus in Poznań from 5th to 7th June 2019.
The centre of our discussion will likely be occupied by translators – of modern times and of centuries past. We would also like to take into account other actors whose activity affects translation, regarded both as a process and as a product: patrons, initiators, commissioners, clients, editors, proofreaders and publishers. We shall also give thought to increasingly advanced translations tools, almost ready to replace human translators, and thus to the place of translators in modern humanities, including digital humanities.
The Keynote Speakers of our conference will be Professor Franco Moretti (Stanford University, California) and Professor Elżbieta Tabakowska (Jagiellonian University, Cracow).
The conference will be held in Polish and English. We will provide simultaneous interpretation.
The conference fee is 400 PLN and it covers among other things the costs of publication in a peer-reviewed volume (selected conference papers, subject to positive review). We kindly ask you to settle the payment by 30th April 2019.
